This 1979 Rolex Air-King (ref.5500) bears a co-branded dial with the Pool Intairdril Logo. The Pool Intairdril watches are quite rare as they were produced by Rolex in the late 1970s into the early 1980s for Pool Intairdrill which was an oil servicing company. Pool Intairdrill supplied the labor, rigs, plant's, etc to the big named oil companies, ie Oxy (Occidental), Agip and to the Libyan NOC (National Oil Company). The watches were given to Pool Intairdril employees typically as safety awards. Safety was a huge issue, each rig was proud of its run of accident-free days and rig managers and other personnel in charge of safety management would be given the Rolex Air kings with their names engraved into the case back along with a certificate of commendation. 

CASE & BRACELET

The case is in superb and sharp original condition. The case back is engraved with "Safty Award" and with the recipient's name which is clear and visible. The watch comes on its original Rolex oyster 78350 bracelet and 557b endpieces. The clasp is stamped VC which dates the watch to 1978. Bracelet shows normal stretch from use but remains in overall excellent condition like the rest of the watch!

DIAL & HANDS

The dial is in original and untouched condition. The bottom of the dial is signed with T SWISS T noting the use of tritium lume on the hands and at the end of the stick markers. Lume dots are fully intact on the dial and within the hands which have achieved a wonderful golden yellow patina. The sword hands are original and the lume also matches the lume dots containing the same warm golden patina. The "Pool Intairdril" logo is one of the more rare logo dials and one of the most sought-after.
